ta-da! this is a cupcake-cake i baked for today's gathering at tamp. i settled the cake while des settled the presents to celebrate alena, ian, alex and philip's bdays. the jap place is really nice though i think the portion's quite small. it was really nice meeting up again and hearing all the retarded stuff the guys do in army. like poke each other with needles and some weird 'factory-like' injection place.

life's been busily fufilling recently (: i've been making it a point to meetup with at least one friend or one grp of friends per week! so far there were meetups with shixuan, megan, nuazies, ling, joo and crc! i'm looking forward to the coming week cos 1. gaston's coming home, 2. ppg meetup, 3. bmt (basic ministry training). yepp yepp exciting week if u dont count the stress from smu lkcsp and acctountancy interviews -.-

on a side note, rose flew back to indo last monday. coming back in 3 weeks but till then, lix has to do housework ):

i feel weird.

not that i'm weird but i just have this odd feeling lately. like my whole world's upside down again and i don't know why. i should be happy. work's great the northlight students are actually super warm and friendly. tuition's paying well. i finally have time to do things i love like reading and watching movies. my driving's improving (finally). i have frequent meetings with the ppl i love. i'm closer to God than i ever have been. going to genting on monday with dibomb. followup and helping out at church soon. yet i feel kinda... weird. i got my acceptance letter from nus today (they are seriously damn fast) and i should have felt happy and relieved but i just went "oh shit". i think i really just need to go away and rethink my life. won't somebody just take me away?

i finally got the guts to quit my job. haha. byebye jtc. it was an experience la. nice colleagues and amazing lunch times with joo qing and angie. but ohwell. gotta get rid of the old to make room for the new! and God has been good to us cos the day we quit, we got another job offer thanks to carolyn! thanks dear. so from monday onwards, joo and i are still colleagues at mediacorp's singapore media academy haha. helping out with video production courses at northlight!

mummy's 60th was last sunday but my dad and bro went to malacca so we had the surprise party on friday instead. mummy didn't suspect a thing! we called up our entire family and treated them to buffet at holiday inn. just our luck too! there was this really amazing band playing and we got to dian ge!

i'm totally blogging at work but i don't really care haha. i just finished the book "requiem for a dream" and it's constantly haunting me. it's a book about addiction in its many forms. not just drugs but addiction to dreams, self-deception and love. it tells about the downward spiral of the 4 main characters and i tell you, it is heartwrenching. physically heartwrenching. it's so hard to read but equally hard to put it down. joo and i are gonna watch the movie on thurs when we take leave haha. so yepp. one thing i've taken from this book is that we shouldn't wait to live, meanwhile allowing ourselves to be empty and feed off instant pleasures. and that we have much good all around us, it's all up to us whether we see it or not. no one is truly poor. if you think you are, you'll just be a hungry soul. that's what i was for a long time. but it's going to be different from now on. thank you God.

life has been different the past few weeks. it's the busiest i've been in some time now but also the happiest. work, meeting up with friends, driving lessons, tuition,... the biggest change in my life though is planting myself back in HOGC and i'm really glad i came back. my life has been really empty for such a long time and i was too clouded to see this was exactly what i needed. now i understand the reasons for all the shit i've been through. it's to bring me back. plus i'm a much more optimistic person about the future and clearer about what i want to get out of life (: anw! here's all the amazing people i've been spending time with since cny!

working at JTC has been... weird. hahaha in a good way. it actually feels like a school cos they have so many weird activities. bowling, sports night, taiji, friday bazaars, vegetable farm and yakult factory outing,... and their facilities include a pool table, gym, badminton court, karaoke,... so we're spoilt for choice during lunch breaks haha.

i'm really thankful for my bestie joo working with me. schoolmates since 6 and now even colleages!

decided to post some family related pics. i've never felt so domestic in my life till this holiday. i've been cooking, decorating, grocery shopping and spending loads of time with my family.

sometimes in life, like in movies or in books, you anticipate the ending before it even begins. the protagonist dies or the hero and heroine end up together. though it seems quite dumb to still continue watching when you know you're gonna end up crying at the shitty ending, it doesn't really stop us does it? it's kinda like life. our endings are all the same but we still live on and make the best of it. anticipation is part of preparation but honestly, there's just some things you can never prepare yourself for. even if it has happened before. so when the credits start rolling or when you've flipped the last page, the same question applies. do you start to harp on the past, worry about the future or decide to live in the present?

so afraid of loss are we that sometimes we're scared to even speak. or to even look away for a second. all we can do is to memorize every action and every word. and hope that with just a look, others will understand your intentions and your feelings. because when someone says goodbye, you don't know when you'll see him next. when someone walks out your door, you're not sure if he'll ever walk back into your life.

so my new year resolution for 2009 is to commemorate the past, celebrate the present and live for the future. it's gonna be a good year, really. job, new school, new friends,... i heard this line on tv this morning, 'I'm too blessed to be stressed'. i guess if we just keep thinking that way, life will be a lot happier (: happy 2009 everyone!

i told myself i wouldn't come online today but as a resident of Serangoon Gardens i feel like i have to speak up. i refer to both articles on the two blogs here and here, one of which was also published in today's TODAY paper.

in case some do not know about this case yet, here's a little background info. the government's planning to house around 1,500 foreign workers in the abandoned Serangoon Gardens Technical School. the residents have protested and the decision has yet to be confirmed.

then there's these two bloggers who have decided to take up a rather biased view on this case and has labeled us as "bigots", "xenophobic", "prejudiced" and "snobbish".

The article, "Get out of my elite neighbourhood", mentioned this: 'It's good to see how rich Singaporeans are uniting against these dastardly foreign workers.', 'I am dismayed that so many well-to-do, educated professionals in my country can be so blatant about their bigotry against poor people of other ethnic groups and nationalities.' and mentioned the recent LoveSingapore, the nation-wide prayer on mistreatment and prejudice of foreign workers and our invalidation of our confession and commitment to reform.

The other article, "Unwelcome", said this about us: 'Who do they think they are? The heavenly host up there whose peace cannot be disturbed no matter what? That the rest of Singapore, where the minions live, are more suitable for such (dare I say), 'low life'?' and 'We should practice charity, for surely it must begin at home. Otherwise, whatever civility we may have cultivated among ourselves is only skin deep, and that skin is particularly thin for people living in the private houses in Serangoon Gardens.'

i'm not good with my words and many have already expressed views similar to mine on these blogs. but honestly, i don't see why these two bloggers, and those who share their views, can't put themselves in our shoes. true, economically, we will suffer. our property value will drop. there will be congestion on the roads. places like chomp-chomp will be more crowded. but it's more than that. to a mother, the safety of her daughter will now be at risk (this is a point my mom keeps emphasizing to me. haha.). having multiple construction taking place near my place for the past few months has already caused my mom to call me a lot more than usual. and yes, they do disturb me and my maid. haha. and the high population of old here will be at risk too. i'm not saying that foreign workers will definitely commit these crimes. but it has been proven that locations in Singapore with higher number of foreign workers do have cases of rape, molestation and robbery. and even one case is one too many. here in Serangoon Gardens where the population of teens and aged is large, and almost every household has a maid, effects of this decision is sure to be detrimental.

the gates of the school now has three cardboard on it saying: 'SOS' Save Our Serangoon. it's quite cute really. haha. actually whether or not you're a resident of Serangoon Gardens, i'm sure it means something to many. be it late night suppers or get togethers at the cafes or ice cream parlours. so no, it's not just us living in our own selfish world, unwilling to let others in. our URA masterplan states that we're a residential area anw. why change it now?

it's nice to see that about 1,400 of us have responded to this case and are working together to stand firm against it. but i emphasize, we don't discriminate against foreigners. we're not protesting their coming to Singapore to work. we just don't see why this decision has to be made if there are other available choices. if eventually, the decision is made to abort this idea, they still won't be left homeless. and the bulk of the construction sites aren't even near here -.-

you can't blame us for thinking about safety and security. for standing up for what we feel is best for us as a community. as a non-resident of our small neighbourhood, it's easy to judge us and wag your fingers at us, labeling us as the 'ugly Singaporean'. but if you had a family living here, if you've lived your whole life here and care enough about the eventual state of the neighbourhood, thinking about such issues doesn't make you a selfish, snobbish person. it just makes you a caring and concerned parent or passionate resident. so before you generalize us and call us selfish, think twice and put yourself in our position.

heylo everybody! just a short post before i go chiong my bio spa -.-

formed some sort of 'band' with joo skippy and sharon. actually was just supposed to perform for guitar concert but we grew ambitious and started playing other random songs, thinking of a band name (joo and sharon insist on nuazies. omg.) and assigned roles. haha. guess we're performing for the busking thingy though i'm still really nervous about performing in front of people. oh we even composed our own song! shall perfect it before showcasing it to the world. haha.

went to this studio, 'L cube', at tanjong pagar last friday to prac for guitar concert. we are such noobs la! we called them up and asked loads of stupid questions until they even laughed at us. -.-

i realised i have alot of random photos! so i better post them all before everything starts piling up!

anw, my dad's back from his maldives job. he's back for good i guess cos he already bought a new car. and 'rewarded' my brother with a new one too even after he crashed his last one into a lampost which actually fell -.-

went out for dinner at this jap place at ecp with daddy and gaston!

oh! 'we will rock you' rocked! some songs were pretty random la but overall i'm so so so glad i went. MiG Ayesha is so adorable!!! the jokes were hilarious, especially when they included singapore stuff, like naming a character dick lee, mentioning fried rice paradise and phua chu kang, and saying 'sorry lah'. the audience was super enthusiastic and the entire theatre was singing clapping and waving their arms along with the songs. oh and did i mention MiG Ayesha's soooo adorable?
